Chilean Navy DD-15 "Cochrane"
Original vintage naval pennant from the Chilean destroyer Destructor Cochrane, a highly collectible piece tied to one of the most combat-proven destroyer designs of the Second World War era and later Cold War naval service in South America.
This ship began service with the United States Navy as USS Rooks (DD-804), commissioned on 2 September 1944. It was part of the legendary Fletcher-class destroyers, a 175-ship program widely regarded as one of the most successful destroyer designs ever fielded due to combat performance, survivability, and versatility. The vessel saw action in the Pacific theater during World War II and later served in the Korean War.
In 1962, under Mutual Defense Assistance agreements, the ship was transferred to the Armada de Chile and renamed Cochrane, continuing its operational life under Chilean colors. Its original U.S. name honored Captain Albert H. Rooks, Medal of Honor recipient for actions in the Battle of Sunda Strait.
This commemorative pennant represents a classic piece of naval display memorabilia, originally intended for shipboard, ceremonial, or visitor-exchange use. Period textile construction and naval heraldic graphics make it an excellent display item for advanced collectors of naval militaria.
