Destacamento Andino N°4 La Concepción
Original vintage unit pennant from Destacamento Andino N°4 La Concepción, a historically significant Chilean Army mountain formation whose lineage and honors make it especially attractive to advanced militaria collectors focused on Andean and War of the Pacific heritage.
The unit traces its origins to 1931 in the southern city of Victoria as Comando del Destacamento Andino N°4. In 1937, after relocating to Lautaro, it was redesignated as Regimiento Andino N°4 “La Concepción,” adopting the name of the heroic 1882 battle and honoring the sacrifice of the 4th Company of the 6th Line Regiment “Chacabuco.” The regimental title also commemorates Captain Ignacio Carrera Pinto and his men, recognized as immortals of the War of the Pacific — adding strong historical weight and narrative depth to unit artifacts.
This period pennant displays the detachment’s emblem: a grenade with two crossed bayonets, crowned by a condor, symbolizing combat readiness, mountain warfare capability, and Andean identity. The heraldic design gives the piece high visual impact and immediate recognition within Chilean Army insignia systems.
Produced as an institutional display item, the pennant shows traditional textile manufacture and period graphic techniques consistent with official unit display pieces. Due to limited production and practical unit use, surviving originals are scarce on the international collector market.
